Today the long awaited OpenOffice.org 3.0 was released. This release brings many improvements-notably the addition of a native Mac OSX version. While I personally find OpenOffice.org to be a little behind the times in terms of interface when compared to Apple’s iWork or even Microsoft Office, Openoffice.org is still a very capable office suite with a very competitive price tag-free.

Running this version on my Macbook Pro seemed to produce better performance then any other version of Openoffice.org that I have ever run. Performance was always one of the things that bothered me most when running OpenOffice.org. It just took forever to start up. This new version feels much snappier.

If you are in need of a free office suite, or are just interested, check out OpenOffice.org.

Note: Due to overwhelming demand, the official OpenOffice.org servers are quite slow at the moment. This mirror seemed to work much better.

The Mozilla Foundation recently released the newest version of their extremely popular standards compliant web browser-firefox. This new version boasts increased performance, memory handling, and a streamlined user interface. While I still use Safari for most of my day-to-day tasks, this new version of Firefox definitely helps bridge the gap between the two browsers from a usability standpoint. If you are a firefox user, be sure to upgrade to 3.0. If you are new to Firefox, especially if you use Windows, check out this wonderful new browser!

Since Mother’s day was so delightful we took mom to the park and had a great time-despite the masses of people that had the same great idea. :-)

On a somewhat related note: I’ve noticed that new houses around town are being built huge with little tiny yards. Does this mean that we as Americans have stopped going outside / playing in our yards altogether, or are we just spending outdoors time somewhere else where we don’t have to mow? …just a thought.

Enjoy the pics!

If you haven’t yet heard of Augustine Christian Academy or classical education you are missing out. ACA is a small trans-denominational Christian classical school in Tulsa, Ok. In the school’s ten year lifespan a reputation has been built that praises the academic prowess of its alumni as well as its family centered comfortable atmosphere.

This has been a very good year for the school and they are currently expanding and renovating many aspects of school life. Some of these changes include expanding and renovating their website.

Many sections of the site has been overhauled including their home page, Student Life section, Classical Education section, and their news section. They have also began to expand and fill in content throughout the site.

If you are new to classical education, new to ACA, or just haven’t visited their site in a while, I invite you to peruse their site. www.acatulsa.org

Today we finally rid my parent’s backyard of all the debris left from the horrible ice storm last month. Their backyard looks totally different now. I think in all 11 trees were lost this year in their backyard, so you can imagine how much things have changed. But it is sure nice to look out the back window and be able to see the ground again!

Enjoy the pics. Also, for pictures during the storm see this article.
